Good morning and welcome to our worship service. It is always a joy to see our church family. If you are joining us as a guest this morning, we are glad you are here — and if we can help you in any way along your spiritual journey, please let us know.

Today we begin the fourth year of our series simply called The Crown. Year one: Saul — chosen by God, undone by fear. Year two: David — faithful and flawed, a man who fell and returned. Year three: Solomon — the wisest man who ever lived, who watched wisdom without faithfulness slowly collapse. Three kings. Three lessons. And now, season four.

This year we are calling the series The Crown Divided. The kingdom splits in two, and Jeroboam — the first king of the north — will set the tone for everything that follows over the next two hundred years. His story is a study in what fear does to a person when left unchecked: a man with no royal blood whom God chose, promoted, and handed a kingdom with a remarkable promise attached. And Jeroboam looked at what God had given him — and didn't trust it was enough.

Over the next eight weeks we will look at nineteen kings, all of whom fail to embrace the promises of God. We are studying them because Paul tells us these stories were written as warnings for us. They are not ancient history. They are a mirror. The question this series will keep asking is the one that haunts Jeroboam from beginning to end: will I trust God's promise, or will I let fear make my decisions for me? It is a question worth sitting with. We are glad you are here.
