TODD’S TAKE

Welcome to our worship service. We are glad to have you here, whether you're a longtime member or a first-time visitor. If you have any questions about Park Avenue or need to know more about the Lord, please seek us out.

Today in the sermon time we take on the second of six phrases we are working through as I preach through and we memorize Philippians 3:12–14. Paul has just admitted that he hasn't yet obtained what he's after — he hasn't already reached the goal. And it's out of that honest admission that today's phrase comes, Philippians 3:12b:

"But I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me."

How we react when we fall short of a goal reveals a lot about us. We can simply give up. We can quietly lower the standard. We can slide into guilt and despair. Paul does none of these. He presses on.

Today we will dig into the how and why of Paul's continued pursuit, and find our own motivation to press on. Life can be disheartening. Goals can be elusive. The energy to keep moving forward is sometimes hard to find. But giving up cannot be an option — and knowing He has not given up on us may be the greatest motivation of all.

I'm glad you are here today as we press on together — to worship, to fellowship, to remember the Lord's sacrifice, and to reflect on Paul's words to the church in Philippi.

PRESSING ON CAMPAIGN - TWO IMPORTANT EVENTS

Two important events are upon us as we continue our Pressing On campaign, and we want everyone to be part of both.

God's Economy: Stewardship Training

This two-session training explores how obedience to Christ opens the door to abundant blessing, and how debt, dishonest gain, and distraction can quietly erode our walk with Him. It's not transactional — it's transformational.

             Wednesdays, 6:30 pm — 9/9 & 9/16 (Atrium or Room D)

             Sundays, 9:00 am — 9/13 & 9/20 (Classroom D or Classroom C)

             Sundays, 5:30 pm — 9/13 & 9/20 (Atrium)

Informational Gatherings

Join us for a small-group evening to ask questions, get clarification on the campaign and scope of improvements, and share prayer requests — which will be lifted up during our 24-hour prayer vigil on October 2–3.

Three consecutive Saturday evenings (9/12, 9/19, 9/26), 6:00–7:30 pm, in homes and at the church.

Please sign up on the board in the Atrium, or online at pacoc.net/312.
