TODD’S TAKE

Welcome to our worship service. We are glad to have you here, whether you're a longtime member or a first-time visitor. If you have any questions about Park Avenue or need to know more about the Lord, please seek us out.

Over the past several weeks we have worked our way phrase by phrase through Philippians 3:12–14, pressing on toward the goal and the prize to which God calls us heavenward in Christ Jesus. Today and next Sunday, we ask what pressing on really looks like in daily life, and specifically in how we handle what God has entrusted to us. Our text is Matthew 6:19–21:

"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

Most of us love a good rewards program. Given the choice, we'll pick the restaurant that gives us something back. Jesus isn't against rewards. He simply wants us to collect the right ones.

Today we'll see that everything we have belongs to God, and that we are his stewards, like the servants in Jesus' parable of the talents. We'll take a drive past a junkyard on I-35 to remember that everything here eventually rusts. And we'll hear Jesus' invitation to send our treasure ahead, where it lasts, knowing that our hearts will follow wherever we put it.

As we look ahead to Pledge Sunday on October 25, I'm glad you are here today as we press on together.
