You can even let him know if there are dates you'll be away so you don't
miss your sermon when it comes!

TODD’S TAKE
What a joy it is to have you with us this morning. We are so glad you chose to spend part of your day here — worshiping together, sharing communion, and opening God's Word.
This morning we bring our series The Crown Divided to a close. For the past several weeks we have been living in one of the most sobering stretches of Scripture in the entire Old Testament — the story of the northern kingdom of Israel and its nineteen kings. One after another, each king was given the same opportunity: walk with God, lead the people in faithfulness, and watch something lasting be built. And one after another, each king made the same choice. The phrase became a refrain: "He walked in the ways of Jeroboam." Twenty times. It never got easier to hear.
Today we arrive at the verdict.
In 2 Kings 17, the author does something remarkable. He stops the narrative and lets God explain in his own words why it all happened. The northern kingdom fell not because Assyria was powerful, but because the people refused to run to God, refused to listen to the prophets he kept sending, and kept trusting alliances with the world instead of the God who had delivered them. The verdict is devastating — and sobering — because it could describe so many of us.
But here is what we don't want you to miss: this story was never really about the kings. It was always about God. A God who held their hands when they were learning to walk. Who sent prophet after prophet because he could not bear to let them go without one more warning. Whose own heart broke — "How can I give you up, Ephraim?" — even as the consequences finally arrived.
That same God is in this room today. He is a God who wants to bless. A God who invites us to join him in bringing life into the world. A God who forgives when we fail. And he is calling you — not to the tragedy of the northern kingdom, but to something far better.
The northern kingdom's story ended in exile. Yours doesn't have to.
