Back to School Prayers
It’s getting close to school time again and we want to lift up our schools and students in prayer. There will be two opportunities to do this. There will be a community prayer gathering on Sunday, August 11 at 7:00 pm beginning at Heritage Park in downtown Denison and then dispersing to the individual school campuses. Then our Wednesday night August 14 meeting at 6:30 PM here at PACOC will be dedicated to offering prayers for our schools and students. Join us for either or both of these events.

TODD’S TAKE
Good morning and welcome to our worship service. If you are a guest with us this morning we welcome you and invite you to join in with us as we honor our Creator and Savior.

Today in the sermon time I will take on another Parishioner's Pick. Today’s request was to preach on the doctrine of grace especially using the teaching of J.I. Packer in his book Knowing God. Grace is one of my favorite topics and Knowing God is one of my favorite books. It’s one of those books that I would recommend for every Christian. In fact, I have an extra copy left over from a recent Sunday morning class, so if you are interested and serious about reading it, let me know. First come, first serve. It’s by no means a technical book but you will find yourself swimming in deeper waters. In addition to Scripture, I have found it most helpful to read some of these classic books on theology, apologetics, spiritual disciplines, and Christian living. I would urge you to make it a habit to read at least one type of book each year in addition to your Bible reading.

PRESSING ON
We are glad to have Dr. Barry Stephens with us from the Siburt Institute of Abilene  Christian University. He will speak to us briefly this morning during the announcement time. Before joining the Siburt Institute, Barry served local churches for 40 years. For the past 23 he had been the Senior Minister with the Monterey church in Lubbock, Texas. In addition to his local ministry, Barry has taught church leadership and conflict management for the past two decades and currently teaches at Lubbock Christian University. We have been working with Barry over the past several months as we plan and vision for the future. The elders and minsters met with him yesterday to review the results of the focus groups and church health assessment survey many of you participated in. Next month the elders and ministers will be gathering for our annual leadership retreat to further discuss this data and continue planning for the future of Park Avenue. We ask your prayers for all of us as we seek God’s vision for the church.

Philippians 3:12–14 (NIV)
Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.
