TODD’S TAKE
Good morning and welcome to our worship service. If you are a guest with us this morning we welcome you and invite you to join in with us as we honor our Creator and Savior.

Today in the sermon time I will take on a Parishioner's Pick. Today we will look at a passage in Romans 2 that may suggest that salvation can be attained by simply being a good person rather than by faith in Jesus Christ. It’s not uncommon to hear the sentiment that if a person is generally moral and hasn’t committed any egregious sin then certainly that person will be welcomed into the eternal kingdom of heaven. In fact, the thought goes that God would be pretty unjust not to welcome an upstanding citizen through the pearly gates. So, is it true? Can a generally good person who has followed their conscience and is recognized by all as a moral exemplar be saved? We will see what Paul says in that passage in Romans 2 as well as what his argument is throughout the rest of the letter of Romans.

We will continue with the second half of the film The God Who Speaks this Wednesday at 6:30. If you missed this last Wednesday, the video is available on YouTube. Just search “The God Who Speaks”.

PRESSING ON
Next Saturday the elders and ministers will be meeting with Dr. Barry Stephens of the Siburt Institute to work through the data gathered from the Focus Groups and Church Health Assessment Survey that many of you were involved in back in the spring. Continue to lift us up in prayer through this process as we identify strengths and weaknesses of the church and seek God’s ongoing vision for the Park Avenue Church of Christ. We truly want to be the church God has called us to be. Barry will be staying over for Sunday and will briefly address the church. Thanks for your input and all you do as we work together to encourage each other in our faith and reach out to others the wonderful message of Christ.
