TODD'S TAKE
Good morning and welcome to our Sunday worship. Last week was Covenant Sunday as we encouraged all of you to Fix Your Eyes of Jesus. If you didn’t get a covenant stone, we still have some available. Come on by the church office to pick one up.

The “Fix Your Eyes on Jesus” theme comes from Hebrews 12:1-3

1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

These three verses are some of my favorite in the Bible. During the month of January, I encourage you to read these verses daily, and, even more, I encourage you to commit these verses to memory. As we run the race, we all need to daily hear these words of encouragement urging us to keep on. This morning I will continue leading us through the rest of Hebrews 12.

Next Sunday is a Fifth Sunday here at Park Avenue and we will continue our tradition of using that Sunday to pay down on our mortgage. Pre-pandemic we would pass the plates a second time but, due to the nature of our collecting contributions during the pandemic, it is difficult to “pass the plates” a second time since we’re not “passing the plates” a first time. Given that fact, the elders have decided that all of that Sunday’s contribution will go to the reduction of the debt on the Family Life Center, aka the Ark. Please give generously as every dollar also reduces the interest we are paying on the loan. We are hoping to pay off the loan in less than four years.  With our debt reduction contributions, we have been able to turn a 25-year mortgage into a 14-year mortgage saving us thousands of dollars in interest. Thank you for your financial generosity.
