TODD'S TAKE
Good morning and welcome to our worship service. A special welcome to our guests. If you have any questions about Park Avenue or Christianity in general, feel free to track down one of our ministers or elders or contact us any time.
This morning I will wrap up my series of lessons “Maintenance to Mission.” We’ve been looking at the mission Jesus sent the 72 disciples on in Luke 10 and finding principles from that mission that may apply to our mission. Here are some:
1—There are people who need the news of God’s kingdom then and now. There is a harvest.
2—Workers are needed as much now as they were in the first century.
3—The mission starts with prayer.
4—The mission is dangerous. It’s like lambs among wolves.
5—There will be some people who will welcome the message. Stay with them meeting their needs and sharing with them the news of God’s kingdom.
6—There will be some who will reject the message. Wipe the dust from your feet and move on. Don’t let that discouragement lead you to doubt that God is king.
7—Remember that in the end if someone accepts the message they are accepting God. In the same way, those that reject the message are rejecting God, not you. It’s always about God, not me or you.
With those instructions and warnings the 72 go on mission. Today we will look at their reaction as they return and Jesus’ response to that reaction.
Joining me this morning will be one of our mission Deacons, Calvin Henry. He will give a report on his recent trips to our mission points in Colombia and Monterrey. Calvin and Linda have been missionaries for many years and continue to work with a mission organization called “Great Cities.” Kevin Dale and Jannie Bellows were also with Calvin in Monterrey encouraging and being encouraged by the church there. They brought back good news about how the kingdom is advancing in those places.
Community Thanksgiving Service, November 20
Plan to join in our Community Thanksgiving Service next Sunday evening at 6:30 PM at Trinity Lighthouse Church. Basil and our worship team will be leading a portion of the worship as churches across Denison gather to give thanks.
