TODD'S TAKEGood morning and welcome to our worship.
This morning we will continue through the apostle John’s first letter as we look at 1 John 2:18-27. It’s in this section that we are introduced to the
antichrist. I imagine there are lots of images and notions that are aroused with the mention of that term, but maybe John has something different in mind than what we normally associate this expression with. In any case, he affirms that the antichrist is present right there with the original recipients as he writes this letter. In fact, there is more than one! I suspect there are a few roaming around even today. As frightful as that may sound, John assures the believers (and us) that we have no worries because we are the anointed ones, not these false teachers. It’s this anointing that combats those feelings of insufficiency and doubt that the antichrist is breeding in the church and then unleashes the complete joy that comes from knowing Jesus is the Christ.
Summer is nearly upon us and what a joy to be able to resume some of our traditional summer activities. This week we welcomed our youth interns, Lauran and Sophie, to PACOC to work with Tyler in a full slate of summer youth events.
A week from Wednesday we will also celebrate our annual
Church on the Lake. Let’s all plan to meet at Waterloo Lake pavilion on June 2 for a time of fellowship and food. The church will provide all the food and ask everyone to make a small donation.
The following Wednesday evening, June 9, we will launch a summer-time watch party of
The Chosen—an acclaimed series on the life of Christ. It'll be a blessing to witness this together as a church.
The
women's ministry had a great dinner and information meeting this last Wednesday and are excited about what lies ahead. If you missed that and need information contact the church office or Becky Russell.
