TODD’S TAKE

Today we begin a brand new series — and we're starting in one of the most remarkable chapters in all of Scripture.

Psalm 110 is the single most quoted Old Testament passage in the entire New Testament. Jesus quoted it. Peter preached it at Pentecost. The book of Hebrews built its greatest argument around it. And the reason is simple — no other passage pulls back the curtain on who Jesus really is quite like this one.

But we're not going to tackle the whole psalm at once. We're going to start right where David starts — verse 1.

Imagine this: David, by the Spirit, is given a glimpse behind the curtain of heaven. And what he hears stops him in his tracks. He overhears a conversation — the Father speaking to the Son. "Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet." David is listening in on a conversation that only the Spirit could have allowed him to hear, and he is so overwhelmed by what he hears that he grabs his pen and writes it down.

No wonder the New Testament writers couldn't stop quoting it. In that one verse, the identity of Jesus — his authority, his victory, his eternal reign — is hiding in plain sight. Every time a New Testament writer wants to say this is who Jesus is and where he is right now, they come back to Psalm 110.

And where is he right now? Seated. Reigning. Already ruling at the right hand of the Father.

In a world that feels chaotic and out of control, Psalm 110:1 has a word for us: the throne is not empty.

I can't wait to dig in together. This is The King We Need.
