Sympathy's

Our sympathy is with Garland & Judith Nevil after the passing of their son-in-law, Ronny Grubb, last Sunday. Services are pending at this time. 

Our sympathy is also with Kyle Fleming and his family after the passing of his father, Doyn Fleming last Tuesday. Family night is tomorow, Monday, September 21 from 5-7PM and a funeral service on Tuesday, September 22 at 10 AM, at Fisher Funeral Home.

 

Memorial Service

A memorial service for Verzella Rainwater, mother of Rachel McClure, will be held tomorrow, Monday, September 21 at 10 AM at Park Avenue Church.

Barnabas Food Drive

Our food drive ends next Sunday, September 27. Grab a tab or two in the Atrium to help the Barnabas Center fill their pantry for Thanksgiving.

 

Lady Jacket Breakfasts

We will be hosting 4 lady jacket breakfasts this year for the female athletes in the Denison school district. The dates are September 25, October 8 & 23, November 6. You can volunteer to cook, serve or clean up at pacoc.net/ladyjackets

 

Ladies Day

Women of all ages and stages of life are invited to join us for a Ladies Day on Sat. October 24 in the Family Life Center from 9:00AM-3:00PM. Our theme will be Abide. Come and be inspired by our Speaker, LuAnn Nystrom, daughter of Kathy Sturch and the late Ernie Sturch. We will enjoy coffee, lunch, and fellowship together.  Childcare will be provided. TODD’S TAKE

Welcome to our worship service. We are glad to have you here, whether you're a longtime member or a first-time visitor. If you have any questions about Park Avenue or need to know more about the Lord, please seek us out.

Today in the sermon time we take on the fourth of six phrases we are working through as I preach through and we memorize Philippians 3:12–14. Last week Paul told us honestly that he has not yet made the prize his own. Today's phrase is his answer to that honesty — not despair, but direction. Philippians 3:13b:

"But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead."

We all carry something behind us — a failure we can't quite let go of, or maybe a success we've quietly settled into. Either one can hold us in place. Paul refuses both. With one open hand behind him and one hand reaching forward, he presses toward what's next.

Today we'll look at what it means to truly let go of the past — the good and the bad — and to strain with everything we have toward what God has set in front of us. Complacency doesn't always look like giving up. Sometimes it looks like resting a little too long in yesterday's victory. But the Christian life was never meant to be a stroll — it's a race, run one faithful step at a time, always facing forward.

I'm glad you are here today as we press on together — to worship, to fellowship, to remember the Lord's sacrifice, and to reflect on Paul's words to the church in Philippi.

Informational Gatherings

We have one more Saturday left for you to join in on a small-group to ask questions, get clarification on the campaign and scope of improvements, and share prayer requests — which will be lifted up during our 24-hour prayer vigil on October 2–3.

24 Hour Prayer Vigil

Our 40 days of prayer will culminate with a 24 hour prayer vigil here at the building from 6 PM Friday, October 2 to 6 pm Saturday, October 3. No sign up required, just show up any time on the hour and join in with prayer leaders to lift up PACOC. Plan to stay for an entire hour.

 

New Classes and Disciple Making Communities Beginning Wednesday & Sunday

New DMCs begin this Wednesday night at 6:30, and new Bible classes begin next Sunday at 9 AM. We also offer DMCs on Sunday nights. See all the offerings on the information sheet at the welcome center. Children’s classes for all ages are offered on Wednesday nights as well.
