TODD’S TAKE
Welcome to worship! We're glad you're here.
Today's Parishioner's Pick comes from a member who wrote in with a confession many of us share: loving the songs of worship, but feeling too embarrassed by our voices to actually sing them out loud.
This morning, we'll ask what it really means to offer something to God—our voices, our time, our gifts—and how He receives what we bring Him. We'll consider the image of a parent's refrigerator, covered in a child's crooked drawings, hung up not for their skill but for the love behind them. And we'll look at what Scripture says about giving: the widow whose two small coins meant more to Jesus than the large gifts of the wealthy, and Paul's description of an ordinary gift as a "fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God."
We'll spend time in passages that call us to sing—not beautifully, but joyfully and honestly—and notice that none of them come with a condition about musical ability. We'll ask what it might mean that God looks at the heart rather than the outward appearance, and why a broken, sincere offering matters more to Him than a polished one.
We'll also reflect on why our voices matter to the people around us, not just to God—and how worship is something we do together, not a performance for the few.
Our hope this morning is simple: that every person in this room, whatever their voice sounds like, will leave ready to sing—because worship is a state of heart, not a state of art.
