TODD'S TAKE
Good morning and welcome to our worship. This morning I will continue the sermon series, Insights from the Inner Circle, looking at the apostle John’s first letter and, in particular, look at his words in 1:8-2:2.
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us. My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.
In addition, today is Parent Commitment Sunday. This is an opportunity for parents to formally and to publicly commit themselves to raising their children in the Lord; to teach them about God; to teach them about Jesus; and to encourage them to one day make their own decision to become disciples of Jesus. We talk a lot about disciple-making and certainly parenting plays an important role in making disciples as Jesus’ command to make disciples in all the world certainly includes making disciples in our very homes.
Glad to have you all with us.
