TODD’S TAKE
What a joy it is to have you with us this morning. We are so glad you chose to spend part of your day here - worshiping together, sharing communion, and opening God's Word.
We are three weeks into our journey through the northern kingdom of Israel — a kingdom of nineteen kings, not one of whom received a positive verdict from the biblical authors. Week one introduced us to Jeroboam, the king who set the standard — tragically, a standard of failure. Last week we met five kings in rapid succession, each one walking the same road Jeroboam paved.
This week we come to a king who makes all of them look like choir boys.
Ahab is the most documented ruler in the entire northern kingdom, and the verdict Scripture renders on him is among the most sobering in all of Kings. He is described as a man who sold himself to do evil — not dragged, not tricked, but voluntarily, deliberately, one choice at a time.
His story is not just ancient history. It is a portrait of a recognizable human trajectory — what happens when a person systematically closes the door on truth, surrounds himself with voices that only agree, and allows momentary remorse to substitute for genuine change.
This is a story worth paying close attention to. It may be closer to home than we expect.
Barnabas Center Update
Our Barnabas Center food distribution ministry continues to be blessed. We have recently received grants in excess of $100,000 to help us continue this important work and expand our reach in the community. These funds are specifically designated by the grantors to build an addition to our current facility that will provide increased food storage capacity, enabling us to serve our neighbors more efficiently and effectively. Initial plans for this addition are already underway.
We are grateful for every member of Park Avenue who volunteers with this ministry, as well as our many community partners who walk alongside us as we share the love of Jesus with those in need. Barnabas is supported in part by your generous Grace Offering.
The Barnabas Center is located at 2800 S. Mirick in Denison. If you would like to find out how you can help, please contact Jimmy or Karen Elmore.
