TODD’S TAKE
Good morning and welcome to our worship services. If you are a guest with us today, our prayer is that you are blessed by our time of worship. We invite you to talk with any of us about how God is working through the Park Avenue Church.
This morning in the sermon time I will wrap up our journey through 1 Thessalonians. I always enjoy preaching through a book in the Bible as it allows us to experience the whole tone of the letter. Too often I read passages in the Bible like I would look up an article in a reference book not appreciating the relationship between author and recipient and not recognizing the questions and struggles being addressed. When scripture is pulled from its context so much meaning and significance is missed. These letters in the New Testament are not a text book but real people writing to other real people who are seeking to be the people God has called us to be. In 1 Thessalonians we see Paul, Silas, and Timothy praising the church as a model church and encouraging them to continue and even grow in their spiritual influence in their outpost of the kingdom. So is the message to us—let’s continue to be a model church and press on to grow in our spiritual influence in Texoma.
Today is Daisy’s Little Red Wagon and this year she brought a friend. We will have two wagons for our kids to fill up with the coins that they have collected over the past months. This contribution is the beginning of our Grace Offering which is next Sunday. The two contributions combined all go towards supporting our outreach efforts here in Texoma and around the world. Our goal is $165,350, approximately 8 times our weekly budget, so we ask everyone to give generously as we answer the call to GO and make disciples of all nations. To see all the works supported by the Grace Offering go to pacoc.net/go or pick up a brochure at the information centers.
Next Sunday is Easter and just like we have two wagons we will have two services—one at 8:00 AM and another at 10:00 AM with a time of fellowship in between. Children's classes will be offered only at the 10:00 AM service. Invite family and friends to join us in the celebration of the empty tomb.
