TODD'S TAKE
Good morning and welcome to our worship service. What a blessing to be able to gather together in the name of Christ with our brothers and sisters. A special welcome to our guests.

This morning in the sermon time I will continue our thoughts from our Covenant Sunday scripture Proverbs 3:5-6:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

Today is Celebration of Marriage where we recognize PACOC couples celebrating multiple-of-5 anniversaries. Today we have six couples celebrating anniversaries of 50 or more years—Harold and Peggy Porter (50), George and Beverly Hatfield (55), Leslie and Christy Jones (55), Don and Kay Skelton (60), Tommy & Sandra Thomas (60) and Harold and Dorothy Armstrong (70). Congratulations to all.

As we celebrate marriage we also recognize that good marriages that reflect the love of God do not happen by accident. We need to be intentional in nurturing this relationship and, when needed, invest in counseling. Knowing this, we are excited that 40 couples are attending this year’s Marriage Get-A-Way in a couple of weeks. If you missed this year, think about attending next year. We also occasionally offer Disciple Making Communities for couples and also provide a counseling service at no or reduced cost. Information on the counseling ministry is on the website or feel free to call one of our ministers for that information.

Today is also Super Bowl Sunday and one of the draws of the Super Bowl are the commercials. If you’re watching the game take note of a couple of spots that will highlight someone you know well—Jesus! The He Gets Us organization will air two commercials that are designed to introduce a relevant Jesus to those who don’t know Him or have drifted away from Christianity.  “Jesus understands what it’s like to be human as he faced many of the emotions and struggles that we go through every day,” explains Jordan Carson, spokesperson and director of communication for He Gets Us. “We want to raise the respect for Jesus in the eyes of those who may feel marginalized, or even hurt by the church because we believe that Jesus is for everyone.” This may be just the opportunity you need to initiate spiritual conversations with friends and family.

Please continue to be in prayer as we continue the process of Elder selection. Blake Smith, one of our Shepherds, will give us an update this morning during the Shepherd's Prayer time at the end of service.

We are glad to be here this morning. I invite everyone ...

to sing boldly
to pray thoughtfully
to commune reflectively
to give generously
to fellowship joyfully, and
to listen mindfully.
