TODD'S TAKE

Good morning and welcome to our worship. To all our guests, we are glad to have you with us and if you have any questions please feel free to find a minister or elder and we’d be more than happy to help. Members and guests, please complete a digital communication card that can be accessed on the church app or by scanning the QR code below.

Today I will be continuing the series “Cries of Desperation.”  This morning we will look at Mary’s cry of desperation after her angelic encounter announcing she will be mother to the Messiah.  Her cry is succinct—”How can this be?” As disciples we have been called to a great task, a different one from Mary but a great task nonetheless.  As Mary felt overwhelmed so can we. We will look at the angel’s response for some help and assurance as we face the overwhelming tasks that God presents to us.

Today is the last day to submit your PRAY. PEOPLE. PURPOSE. self evaluation. As of Friday morning we have received 140 responses and are hoping for 200. If you haven’t completed yours yet, here are three good reasons:

1—It’s always beneficial for us to look inward and evaluate our progress as disciples.  “Am I growing? Am I drifting? Is my faith weakening?” We need to ask ourselves these questions to stay firmly rooted in the faith. Paul warns believers, “So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!” (1 Corinthians 10:12—NIV) This self evaluation could reveal some areas in your life where you have become weak.

2—Maybe there are some changes you need to make in your spiritual life. Perhaps you’ve had a gnawing feeling that something is not quite right but just haven’t  taken time to really think about it. This self evaluation tool might be just what it takes to initiate needed changes in your life.

3—This tool will help our leadership address areas where the church needs additional encouragement and/or resources. Maybe we have been neglecting certain areas of discipleship that need to be talked about more. The elders want to lead well and if this self-evaluation tool reveals any leadership voids they want to address those.

If you have any questions about the tool, feel free to contact an elder or minister. May we continue to let God lead us as his church!

“Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?” 2 Corinthians 13:5 (NIV)
