TODD'S TAKE
Good morning and welcome to our worship. It is good to have everyone with us in person today and we are glad to have those of you who are joining us online.
Today is Covenant Sunday, an annual tradition here at PACOC since 2016 to call us to recommit ourselves to the Lord and to serving him as a member of this body of Christ. I went back through time to remind myself of the themes of each Covenant Sunday. Here they are:
2016—Choose this day whom you will serve—Joshua 24:15
2017—No other gods—Deuteronomy 6
2018—Follow me daily—Luke 9:23
2019—Encourage one another—Hebrews 3:13
2020—Go and make disciples—Matthew 28:19
2021—Fix your eyes on Jesus—Hebrews 12:2
Today’s theme is “SERVE” and our theme verse is Mark 10:45 where Jesus says, “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve.” Jesus left us an example of servant leadership and calls all his disciples to follow in his steps. Jesus clearly teaches that a life of value and greatness is found in embracing the role of servant. He has also entrusted to us, his church, the privilege and responsibility to continue his work which involves all us using our spiritual gifts to carry that out.
The church has several ministries that depend on the involvement of our members. Last week we highlighted the Park Avenue Wednesday Supper (PAWS) ministry and called our members to both participate in that fellowship activity and volunteer to help make those meals happen. Throughout the year we will highlight ministries of the church and ask you to consider serving in one of those ministries. Go to pacoc.net/serve to keep up to date with what’s going on at PACOC. The Lord is doing so much through us and continues to open doors of ministry to us as we continually seek to be his presence in this world.
In addition to serving through the church we encourage all of us to serve in all the places we live, work, and play. May our heart’s desire be for God to “make me a servant, Lord, make me like you.”
